Biyanga is an exploration of fatherhood across different cultures and backgrounds. Examining the shared experiences, it aims to highlight the importance and beauty of fatherhood.

The Project

My hope with this work is to give an honest portrayal of fatherhood and the challenges and joy inherent in this journey from different cultural and experiential perspectives

Video Samples

These are excerpts from the first two profiles on fathers I have shot, filmed and scored.

Street Theatre, Canberra

This work is being birthed in collaboration with The Street Theatre, Canberra as part of their Early Phase Development Program.

The finished work will be a visual tapestry of the visual documentation captured and scored by my original music in a live performance.

In a world that has become increasingly divided and silo-ed, I believe that this project can explore the commonalities we all share as fathers and humans.

This is a story that aims to uplift, shine light and provoke.

Who Am I?

My name is Liam Budge and I am a 32 year old father living in Canberra on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land.

I have been a father for three years and I have loved being on this evolving journey. In addition to being a father I am also a multi-disciplinary artist, creating through the mediums of music, video and photography.

When not creating you can find me in the garden trying desperately not to kill my new tomato plants, exploring Bunnings with Julian my son, and adventuring with my wife - Abbey.

For the record… This is how excited Bunnings makes Julian and I:

Your Involvement

  1. Short initial chat over the phone/zoom/coffee/skype etc.

  2. Film an interview of roughly 30-45 minutes discussing your relationship to fatherhood

  3. Film you interacting with your children(s) doing something that you all love to do together (play in the park/building lego/bike riding!)

The filming component will take 1/2 a day, and I will digitally give you a selection of the photos/video I capture to you - complimentary in exchange for your involvement!

Due to the artistic nature of this project, there will be no fees involved.
